This psalm gives us a little context and tells us that David created it after tricking Abimelech and saving himself. David was is a situation that looked dark and like he wouldn't survive, but God saved him and David responds with praise. To me this psalm has that feel of uncontainable joy and gratitude. Have you ever felt that? Have you ever walked out of the end of a period of darkness that you weren't sure would end?
I certainly have lived through those seasons and God has brought me back to a place of joy and I just can't contain my praise. The key is to bottle that praise and deliver it to God every day. For each day God brings us victory. We may not always be aware of it and some days we may want to give in to the feelings of darkness but it is important to hold on to that understanding of God's greatness and remember that it gets better. There is not a day on this earth that defines our life or represents what our eternity will be like. We never get more than glimpses, but we do know that our eternity with God will be joy beyond this world.
So find that joy and excitement of God's victory and hold on to it each day, whether it be a day filled with light or darkness and know that with God, uncontainable excitement you experience here is just a shadow of what will be.
