One of the things that stands out for me in this psalm is the idea of God being in the walls of Jerusalem and being the city's defender.
3 God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers,
revealing himself as its defender.
12 Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem.
Walk around and count the many towers.
13 Take note of the fortified walls,
and tour all the citadels,
that you may describe them
to future generations.
14 For that is what God is like.
He is our God forever and ever,
and he will guide us until we die.
I think about how God builds a fortress of refuge for each of us. For this author of this psalm, that was seen as the actual city. But where is God building a refuge for you. Do you see it in an actual place that makes you feel safe and protected. For me, it is a spiritual place, where I feel surrounded by God's presence on all sides...and with a domes covering. It is a place my spirit can go when I am tired, beaten up, or just can't take any more of the world. It is there that God pours healing into me and helps me to rise again.
Have you found your place of refuge? If not, ask God to show it to you. We all need that place where we feel completely protected and safe. Sometimes it is a physical place, sometimes and spiritual one or within the relationship of one or two others that shine of God. It is important to find this place because we all have times when we are so weak that all we can do is crawl to the Lord and it helps to know where you are crawling to.
